Pushchair Accessories

By hoxr08, 24 May, 2010, 2 Comments

These days buying all the accessories and useful little extras you need for your pushchair can practically double the cost of your buggy.  As manufacturers battle to create ever more practical pushchairs the number of “must-have” pushchair accessories has soared and before you know it a bargain pushchair suddenly appears to be less of a good deal when you get to the checkout…

To avoid a nasty shock when you come to pay, you need to consider what’s included with the pushchairs and buggies you’re interested in and what you would need to purchase separately.  Increasingly things that you think would be included with your pram are classed as accessories and as such drive up the price considerably.

To make sure you don’t end up paying a lot more than you bargained for you need to really think about what you’re getting with your buggy and what extras you’ll need to buy.  Some pushchairs come with lots of accessories included, whilst with others you have to even purchase the seat unit separately!  However, there are some great discount package deals available, especially online, which can reduce the costs considerably.

There’s no doubt that some accessories are essential.  A foot muff and a car seat (if you want a complete travel system), really do make life easier.  A sun parasol can also be great for keeping your baby comfy and happy in the summer.  However, with accessories ranging from snow wheels and travel bags, to cup holders and phone holders it’s easy to get carried away.  A good tip is to wait until your baby is born before you buy luxury extras – then you’ll have a better idea of what will be really useful to you.  Once you’ve taken your pushchair out a few times you might decide that a phone holder would be a lifesaver!

By hoxr08, 29 April, 2010, No Comment

maclaren grand tour lxMaclaren have just launched an all singing, all dancing pushchair to add to their already great range of pushchairs and buggies.  The Maclaren Grand Tour LX is described as a luxury pushchair and if the gadgets are anything to go by it certainly lives up to its name!  Featuring a wireless dashboard and remote control safety lights along the chassis, the GT LX is definitely one for the parents out their who love their gadgets.  The dashboard boasts a clock, thermometer and a detachable “stollometer” to let parents know exactly how far and how fast they’ve walked.

The GT LX also comes with all the features we’ve come to expect from a quality pushchair; suitable from birth, light weight, rear and forward facing seat unit and travel system compatible.  It also boasts a generous sun canopy, integrated head hugger and shoulder pads along with front and rear suspension to ensure a smooth and comfy ride for baby.

Impressive stuff, but perhaps not all entirely essential – I don’t know whether I’ve ever been desperate to know the exact temperature when I’ve been out and about with my little ones…  At an RRP of £590 the GT doesn’t exactly come cheap but it does offer innovative design features and classic Maclaren quality design.

You can get the Grand Tour LX from Kiddicare for only £559.99 – saving 5% on RRP, as well as free delivery.

maclaren voloAt the other end of the scale, another recent addition to the Maclaren range is the Volo.  A super light weight and budget-friendly stroller, still offering the usual handy Maclaren design features; a 5 second fold mechanism and compact umbrella fold.  The Volo is a great solution if you’re looking for a light, compact buggy for your toddler and perfect if you need a small stroller to take on summer holidays!

Reliable as ever, Kiddicare have the Volo on offer for only £80.

How Do You Find The Best Prams and Pushchairs?

By hoxr08, 7 April, 2010, No Comment

There are so many types of prams and pushchairs out there that it’s difficult knowing what’s going to be right for you and your new baby.  The first thing to do when you’re trying to pick the right pram for your new arrival is to think about your lifestyle.  Obviously, things won’t be the same as they were before, but you may well have some idea about how and where you plan to use your buggy.

*Will you be using the buggy off-road?
*Will you be using the pushchair for long trips out?
*Will you need to carry the pushchair upstairs?
*Will you use public transport?
*What storage space do you have?
*What space will you have in your car boot?
*Do you want to use the same pushchair from birth, right up to four years?
*Will you be travelling by car a lot?

Once you have an idea about what type of pushchair is right for you.  It’s time to think about the practicalities of fitting the pushchair into your life (literally!).  You need to make sure that whatever buggy you opt for fits into your home and your car – some of the bigger models, particularly those that come with a separate carrycot unit, can take up a lot of space and you might struggle to fit anything else into your boot!  Equally, if storage is limited at home you need to consider whether you have space for a bigger model – maybe you won’t love it quite so much after tripping over it for the millionth time…!  If you’ll be carrying the pushchair to an upstairs flat, or moving it from car to house regularly then the weight will be especially important to you, there are some great lightweight models out there, just as tough as their heavier counterparts, thanks to the wonders of aluminium!

Another crucial point to consider is whether you’ll be using public transport with your buggy in tow.  If so a model with a one-handed fold mechanism will come in very handy!  Struggling to fold up your pushchair, while holding a baby and all your shopping  is not fun, so the easier the folding mechanism the better!

Finally you need to think about how long you plan to use the pushchair – if you want to use the same pram from birth right up until four years, then you need a versatile 3 in 1 pushchair, that will grow with your baby.

Then, if you really want to think ahead, it’s worth taking into account whether you want to use the same buggy for any future babies; if so you need a durable model, with cheaply replaceable parts and changeable seat covers.

And, one final thing… pretty much all buggies these days are baby travel systems – it’s near essential; you can move baby from car to pram and vice versa with the minimum disruption.  But, if you’re looking at a travel system you need to look at the car seat as well to make sure it has a high safety rating and generous padding to keep baby nice and snug.

Ok, so there’s a lot to think about… but once you have an idea of the basic things you need from your pram you can start picking from the fab selection out there!

Kiddicare have a great range of pushchairs and buggies, with some of the lowest prices online, as well as next day delivery, take a look at their range by clicking on the banner below.

A pushchair is much more than just a form of baby transportation these days.  Manufacturers have finally cottoned onto the fact that parents now want more from their pram than a safe ride – they want style and practical design features, that make their new lives easier, as well.  Thankfully there’s now something fun and stylish to suit pretty much every budget and lifestyle, offering clever design features and a comfortable ride for baby all at the same time.

Now the choice is pretty great, so good in fact it’s a major job making your decision and sticking with it – as soon as you think you’ve made up your mind you’re bound to spot another eye-catching model out and about!

The good news is you’ve got nine months or so to make your choice and a lot of fun window shopping to do in the meantime…
